FBF111 – Choose a Career You’ll Love

You know what is sad? In a salary.com survey, 52% of respondents said they constantly feel overworked. In the most recent Gallup poll entitled, The State of the American Workplace, found 70 percent of American workers are either “not engaged” or “actively disengaged” in their work. 68% of people working would take a pay cut to work at a job that more meets their interests. They did not choose a career that fits.

Is that you? Look to your left, then to your right. If its not you, its them, or likely it is all 3 of you (sadly). Workplace happiness is a real problem in our society. The most common reasons sited for workplace frustration are email overload and unnecessary meetings. Employees feel busied to death

But why? Why do people dislike their work so much? And what can we do to change it. Should we all just quit our jobs….

Episode Summary: Choose a Career You’ll Love

[shareable cite=”Benjamin Fairless”]Choose a career you love…Give it the best there is in you…Seize your opportunities…And be a member  of the team[/shareable]

Ten things to consider when choosing a career:

  1. Start with what you are good at- notice how some things come easy
  2. Know your true potential
  3. What are you interested in?
  4. Interest is important but how does it relate to your experience?
  5. Where do you want to be in 10 years? Start with the end in mind
  6. Enlist the support of loved ones part A
    • Ask those you know and love what they see as your strengths
  7. Enlist the support of loved ones part B
    • Good jobs come from good referrals
  8. Always be looking
  9. Assess the landscape
  10. Don’t worry- stress out or think this decision is the “end all”

Seriously ask yourself these 4 questions

  • Question #1 is my current position one that makes me happy?
  • Question #2 is it me?
  • Question #3 Its not me, it’s you (your company).
  • Question #4 are you ready to do this?
